G 20 Vinay Kwatra to be new Foreign Secretary and Harsh Shringla will be coordinator for 2023 meet

Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Indian Ambassador to Nepal today took over as the new foreign secretary of India, while the present secretary Harsh Shringla will take over as Coordinator of the G-20 summit which is scheduled to take place by the end of 2023, in New Delhi.

Kwatra was former ambassador to France and also has served as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office (PMO). A 1988 batch IFS officer, he has also served key desks like the USA, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. He is said to be closely worked with PM Modi before to be appointed as Ambassador to France. Kwatra has a good working relationship with the MEA S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

After completing two years as Foreign Secretary, Harsh Shringla will demit his office on April 30. On his tenure, 1984 batch IFS officer played key role for India in reaching out in the Indian Ocean Region with a close relation with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and other nations. Known for being a quiet worker, Harsh worked on India’s foreign policy despite being seriously caught in the spread of the pandemic.

He will oversee the entire preparations of G-20 summit which scheduled to be held next year in India for the very first time.
