Starting from April 10th, the COVID precaution dose i.e. booster dose will be available for anyone above the age of 18 at private vaccination centers announced the Union Health Ministry on Friday.

The central ministry issued a statement saying that, ‘“It has been decided that precaution dose of COVID vaccines will be made available to 18+ population group at private vaccination centers. The administration of Precaution Dose to 18+ population through Private Vaccination Centers would start from 10th April (Sunday), 2022. All those who are more than 18 years of age & have completed 9 months after the administration of second dose, would be eligible for Precaution Dose. This facility would be available in all Private Vaccination Centre.’

They further added that the ongoing free vaccination programme at government vaccinations centres for all the doses including the booster dose to frontline workers, healthcare workers and senior citizens will be continued and its pace will be accelerated.

India’s vaccination programme has been remarkable since the day one, with setting world records and vaccinating the population in several phases. Seeing the rise in new infections in China, the booster dose was needed as currently India’s pandemic situation is stable.

The central ministry started vaccinating frontline workers and senior citizens the precaution dose since 10th January 2022. A gap of 9 months between second and third doses is recommended, and the same vaccine will be administered as the third dose.
